Miss Jessie’s would like to give a big congratulatory shout out to actress Audra McDonald, for winning a Tony for her portrayal of Billie Holiday, in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill, at the 68th Annual Tony Awards.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Audra’s work, she’s previously acquired two Grammys and Tony awards for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her roles in both A Raisin in the Sun and Master Class, Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her roles in both Ragtime and Carousel, and Best Lead Actress in a Musical for the Gershiwns’ Porgy and Bess. This win is now her sixth Tony, making record breaking history by being the first person to ever acquire more than five Tony’s in their lifetime as well as bring the first performer to win an award from all four performance categories. Her six wins officially putting her ahead of five time winners and theater veterans, Julie Harris and Angela Lansbury, solidifying this unstoppable powerhouse’s superstardom. May she continue with this momentum, and we are privileged enough to witness her go for Tony number seven!
