President Barack Obama & First Lady Michelle Teach their Daughters the Value of a Dollar

Did you all know that prior to obtaining law degrees, both Michelle and Barack Obama juggled school and a plethora of minimum wage jobs? Before becoming the President of the United States, Barak Obama’s resume consisted of waiting tables, painting homes, and scooping ice cream at Baskin Robbins, and Michelle Obama worked at a book binding shop. Though humble professional beginnings, both Barack and Michelle are grateful for their experiences, as they laid the foundation for the strong work ethic they have today, and feel it is their duty as parents to pass these principles down to their daughters, Sasha and Malia.

You would think that being the daughters of the most powerful political leaders in the world, Sasha, 13, and Malia, 16, would be regular fixtures in the limelight, rubbing elbows with the social elite and documenting all their privileged escapades all over Instagram or Twitter. But before becoming the President and First Lady, Barak and Michelle Obama’s primary job titles were that of Mom and Dad, and as such, they believe keeping their children out the public eye has been critical for allowing their girls to have a normal childhood and preserve their natural innocence. Part of this has involved not coddling or over protecting the girls from age-appropriate, real world experiences, in spite of their family’s notoriety, including having them start at the bottom of the professional food chain with minimum wage jobs. Recently Malia has been spotted working as a Production Assistant for a CBS television show, and while Sasha may still be a little young for formal employment, her babysitting, ice cream scooping, assistant days are right around the corner. I’m sure that in the meantime, she is currently pulling her weight by doing little odd jobs or chores in exchange for an allowance. In a recent interview with Parade Magazine, Barack and Michelle discussed their parenting style;

“I think every kid needs to get a taste of what it’s like to do that real hard work,” said Michelle Obama.

President Barack Obama chimed in with, “We are looking for opportunities for them to feel as if going to work and getting a paycheck is not always fun, not always stimulating, not always fair, but that’s what most folks go through every single day.”

Seems Obama Mama and Pop have done an excellent job in ensuring their children remain humble and down to Earth, and when the time does come that Sasha and Malia do enter the professional world, they will conquer every challenge and take the world by storm!

So what do you think about all this, Miss Jessie’s fansDo you think the best way to teach your children the value of a dollar is to allow them to get jobs while still in their teens?
