The Premiere of Oxygen’s Fix My Choir!
I’m thrilled to report that the debut episode of Oxygen’s latest show, Fix My Choir, finally premieres tonight, at ! Join hosts Michelle Williams, the Grammy award-winning member of Destiny’s Child, Deitrick Haddon, the reigning king of mainstream gospel, as they resuscitate the driving pulse within local communities, small town church choirs. Together, they provide these choirs with the much-needed metamorphosis of their musical abilities, dance skills, sense of teamwork, and ultimately their souls.
Based on the trailers, my guess is the show will be an amalgam of the Glee Project, meets We TV’s Mary Mary, and I anticipate many of the episodes will be quite moving. Michelle and Deitrick’s selflessness, talents, and understanding supply these struggling choirs with the hope they need, building up their confidence and providing them with the opportunity to overcome their various adversities. I know most people have reservations about certain installments of the reality TV genre, but I think this is a show I can get behind. Both educational and inspiring, I doubt that being especially religious will be a mandatory requirement to appreciate this show, because everyone can relate to the human experience of overwhelming frustration and self-doubt. It illustrates the impact of the healing and unifying power of music. When genuine love, or however you personally choose to identify the power of good that permeates this universe, is channeled through positivity and art, harmonious things are bound to happen.
