Jourdan Dunn Makes History Again, as This Month’s British Vogue Cover Girl

Though only 24 years old, Jourdan Dunn has officially earned her place amongst the fashion elite. She’s strut the catwalk for Victoria Secret.

And held her own alongside the world’s most notorious veteran top models, becoming the face of major fashion brands, including the latest campaign for Burberry with Naomi Campbell.

She has even left her mark in the history books as the first black model to hit the runway for Prada in over ten years, during 2008 Milan Fashion Week.

But now Jourdan Dunn has hit yet another professional milestone, gracing the cover of British Vogue, for the February 2015 issue. Styled by Kate Phelan and photographed by Patrick Demarchelier, the 5’11” mother of one wore an elegant sundress from Prada’s spring collection.

This is not her first time on the cover; in 2008 she was featured on the cover of Miss Vogue UK and she also has shared the cover of British Vogue with Rosie Huntington- Whiteley and Eden Clark, however this is her first solo cover shot for British Vogue. A solo cover shot on any edition of Vogue is a great professional achievement worthy of celebration for any model, but the 2015 February issue of Vogue is a particularly great coup in Jourdan’s career because she is the first woman of color to have been given this honor, in twelve years. While black women have been featured in group photographs for British Vogue covers, Jourdan included, there hasn’t been a solo cover photograph featuring a black model since Naomi Campbell’s August 2002 cover.

When British Vogue’s instagram featured a retrospective of their 2014 covers, on New Years Day of 2015, the magazine was immediately criticized for the lack of diversity amongst the cover girls.

Clearly the editors of Vogue were in need of this wake up call, and perhaps seeing the collection of covers together gave them a much needed new perspective. So props to Jourdan Dunn for being the face of change and making history, all while looking flawless!
