In anticipation of the Thanksgiving holiday, I originally had attempted to put together a Thanksgiving related Hairography track list, but abruptly realized there aren’t any real songs or carols associated with this holiday. Puzzled by this dilemma, I did what most people do when they don’t know the answer to something right off the top of their head, and I took to the Internet for research. As I scrolled through endless links, bouncing from search engine to search engine, I realized I could not have been the first person to ever wonder why there are no actual Thanksgiving related tunes. Suddenly, it dawned on me; this topic is a common seasonal subject on my favorite satirical sketch comedy show, Saturday Night Live.

Back in 2010, comedian and reigning king of impersonations on Saturday Night Live, Jay Pharoah posed some interesting questions, on SNL’s staple Weekend Update segment; why are there no Thanksgiving themed hip hop songs? Furthermore, if hip hop’s greatest artists were to compose some Thanksgiving themed beats, what would that sound like? Ever the comedic chameleon, Pharoah backs up his quandaries by delving into his personal anthology of impressions, to brilliantly illustrate how these tracks would potentially sound, if released some his favorite artists, Jay-Z, Drake, and the late, great Biggie Smalls! Check it out right here.
