Congrats to Mrs. Knowles- Ferguson; Solange Gets Married!
Solange Knowles tied the knot with longtime beau, director Alan Ferguson, in my hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana. The two wed in an intimate ceremony in New Orleans’ historic Bywater District, at the Holy Trinity Church, on November 16th.
The ceremony was a harmonious amalgamation of New Orleans tradition, and obvious touches of Solange’s eclectic, original style.
For one thing, Solange wore her hair all natural, rocking an elegant yet chic afro, that perfectly complimented her Humberto Leon for Kenzo caplet bridal gown, and later her vintage inspired, creme, Stephane Rolland jumpsuit and cape reception outfit. The groom also donned an ivory suit, with a pair of black leather and gold tipped shoes.
Guests were also instructed to wear outfits derived from an all white palate, and the bridal party included sister, Beyonce Knowles, friend Janelle Monae, and mother Tina Knowles.
While old school wedding tradition calls for the bride and groom to exit the church in classic car, decorated in tin cans and a “Just Married” sign, Solange and Alan took their “just married” exit to the reception on all white bikes; Solange’s front basket filled with elegant white roses.
No wedding can be complete without minor incident or few bumps in the road, and it was said that a literal bump/ New Orleans pothole gave the groom’s bike a flat in his front tire! Ever the mellow Mr. and Mrs., the two laughed it off as Alan walked his bike through the cobble-stoned streets of the French Quarter.
The reception dinner was hosted at the gorgeous New Orleans Museum of Art. A four-course meal was served on all white linens with gold silverware. The meal consisted of traditional southern dishes such as oyster and artichoke bisque, paupiette de poulet, shrimp and grits, and for dessert, a choice between bread pudding and pineapple foster. Music was DJ’d by family friend, Questlove.
Rather than hype up a choreographed “first dance between husband and wife”, Solange made a point of dancing with the other significant man in her life, her son, Daniel Julez Smith Jr.

The evening concluded with an infamous New Orleans celebratory tradition, a customary second line dance down Esplanade Ave. With handkerchiefs and sparklers in hand, the guests resembled a sea of elegant, sparkling angels, as they danced down the street for ten blocks with sparklers, accompanied by live brass band.
Even Beyoncé couldn’t help but turn up!
All in all, it was a romantic, magical evening in the Big Easy. Congrats to the happy couple! We wish you a happy marriage filled with years of health, good fortune, and lots of love!
